I can clearly remember , (as a child) one saturday evening watching this movie in the vhs video. The original R-rated cut is 140 minute! It made a big impact on me. Several scenes was record in my brain for ever. I've recently seen again and it's curious what a lot of famous stars (now) are in the cast. (Helen Mirren, Liam Neeson)
While I'm writing this post I've found out that director John Boorman originally intended to film an adaptation of Tolkien 's The Lord Of The Rings and much of the imagery and set designs seen in Excalibur were created with that intention.
